Youngstown State University (YSU) is seeking bids for a project to install two 80-foot tall wind turbines on campus, according to local news station website wfmj.com. YSU STEM College Dean Dr. Martin Abraham said “the project is designed primarily for research,” according to the article. Students will compare one tower with standard turbine blades with another tower using experimental blades designed by an Ohio company. The project “was first planned two years ago as part of a $1-million dollar grant from the Department of Energy,” which also “provides for construction of a third wind turbine at the site in the future.” The third turbine would be shorter and use a shrouded blade.
