SFO has published a notice confirming it is working with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) to disseminate its stance on facilitation payments to public officials abroad. The notice stresses these payments are illegal regardless of their size and frequency. It says any UK individual or company that is asked to make a payment should tell FCO via the local embassy, consulate or high commission. FCO will tell SFO which will decide whether to engage with local law enforcement agencies. (Source: SFO Updates on Facilitation Payment Action)
