Italian Prime Minister Mr Berlusconi appeared in court on 19 September 2011 in one of the four trials against him. It is alleged that Mr Berlusconi paid his former British tax lawyer, Mr Mills, $600,000 to produce false testimony in the 1990s about his business operations. Mr Berlusconi has dismissed the case as “paradoxical, ridiculous and surreal” and claims that in respect of Mr Mills, “I don’t remember ever having met him”.

In 2009 Mr Mills was convicted of accepting a £380,000 bribe, however, this decision was overturned by an appeal court who decided the time limit had expired.
