The Government has issued a new student immigration policy.  Employers dealing with international graduates need to consider the changes.  Students at university will still continue to be permitted to work 20 hours per week during term time.  The Tier 1-post study worker category will close in April 2012.  Students who have graduated from a UK university will be able to switch into Tier 2 although the requirement for a resident labour market test will then be waived.  They will also not be caught by the quota figures.  Detailed guidance and rules are to follow.

The Government has also announced that from 10 May 2011 migrants wishing to marry in the UK will no longer require a certificate of approval for marriage before they can be married or register a civil partnership in the UK.  They will however need to comply with all other existing requirements.
