In the case of Da'Bell v NSPCC, the EAT has issued new guideline bands of awards for injury to feelings to take account of inflation. The previous bands were set out by the Court of Appeal in Vento v Chief Constable of Yorkshire Police - the bottom band for less serious cases such as a one-off incident or an isolated event; the middle band for more serious cases; and the higher band for the most serious. The new bands are:

  • Lower band: maximum of £6,000 (previously £5,000)
  • Middle band: between £6,000 to £18,000 (previously £15,000)
  • Higher band: between £18,000 to £30,000 (previously £25,000)
