Following notification by ComReg of a breach of its non-discrimination obligations, Eircom has paid a penalty of €275,000. The breach notification followed ComReg’s investigation into Eircom’s fault repair performance for phone lines (Single Billing Wholesale Line Rental or SB-WLR) during the period August 2011 - August 2012. The investigation concluded that Eircom was repairing faults from its own retail arm customers faster than those of other operators.

In addition to paying over money to ComReg, Eircom has committed to publishing detailed information about its repair performance on a quarterly basis, starting from 1 July 2013. As a result, Eircom has avoided ComReg taking matters further including the possibility of ComReg taking a court action to compel Eircom’s compliance. No doubt, these quarterly reports will be carefully scrutinised by operators.
