The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has approved final amendments to a rule governing pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturer conduct. The rule prohibits certain gifts, such as tickets to shows, golf outings and cash, and explains under what circumstances meals can be provided and payments can be made for bona fide services, technical training, prescription drugs for use by patients, and charitable contributions, among others. The changes to the rules include reporting requirements. The department’s goals in making the changes included maintaining a high level of public information available and aligning state law with standards set by the legislature and two industry codes of conduct.
