  • The EU has given “cautious backing” to Italy’s emergency legislation on expelling EU citizens but underlined that strict conditions need to apply in such cases and cautioned against discrimination against Romanians (FT, November 6, 2007, p. 3) 
  • On November 5, 2007, the European Commission published its Competitiveness report 2007 which showed that overall European competitiveness improved in 2006 (Europolitics, November 6, 2007, p. 4) 
  • The European Ombudsman has criticized the European Commission for its failure to publish a 2005 annual report on access to European Parliament, Council and Commission documents in 2006 as it is required to do by law. The 2005 annual report was eventually published in September 2007 following a complaint in February 2007 from the non-governmental organization Statewatch (RAPID, November 6, 2007)
