Law no. 18/2016, of 20 June
The second amendment to the General Act on Employment in the Public Sector came into force on 1 July 2016, reinstating 35 hours as the normal working week for public sector employees.
The normal working hours for public sector employees are now as follows:
- 7 hours per day, with the exception of flexible working time and special working hours arrangements;
- 35 hours per week, without prejudice to arrangements for shorter working weeks, set out in specific legislation, nor to special working hours arrangements;
It must be pointed out, however, that the maximum length of the normal working day can be reduced by dint of a collective bargaining agreement, but it cannot result in a cut in employees' remuneration or any other unfavorable change in working conditions.
