EPA has now activated the TSCA Chemical Safety Advisory Committee (CSAC) that it announced it would establish in June 2015. The CSAC will provide independent scientific advice and recommendations on the scientific basis for the agency’s risk assessments, methodologies, pollution prevention measures and approaches for Work Plan chemicals. It is comprised of experts in toxicology, environmental risk assessment, chemical exposure assessment, biochemistry, PBPK modeling, epidemiology, environmental fate, and other related areas.
There will be a half-day orientation meeting of the new CSAC on May 11, 2016, at which the CSAC will consider and review background information on TSCA, the TSCA Work Plan Chemical Program, and aspects of TSCA risk assessment approaches. The meeting will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (EST). This is an open public meeting that will be conducted over the Internet using Adobe Connect. Registration is required to attend this meeting. Visit: http://www.epa.gov/csac to register.
A separate public meeting of the CSAC is scheduled for May 24-26, 2016, at which time the CSAC will focus on the external peer review of the draft “TSCA Work Plan Chemical Risk Assessment 1-bromopropane (n-Propyl Bromide): Spray adhesives, dry cleaning, and degreasing uses (CASRN: 106-94-5).” The assessment will focus on uses of 1-bromopropane in commercial (i.e., vapor degreasing, spray adhesives, and dry cleaning) and consumer applications (i.e., aerosol solvent cleaners and spray adhesives). The assessment will focus on all humans/lifestages. Written comments and requests to make oral comments will be accepted until the date of the meeting, however, EPA is asking that written comments be submitted on or before May 10, 2016, and requests to present oral comments be submitted on or before May 17, 2016.
