• Shell Canada Limited has applied to the AEUB and Alberta Environment to amend the Jackpine mine Phase 1 project which would increase bitumen production by 100,000 bpd. This expansion would bring the nominal bitumen production capacity to 300,000 bpd. Shell is also seeking approval for a 200,000 bpd bitumen mine at Pierre River.
  • MEG Energy is seeking approval for Phase 3 of its Christina Lake Project to expand its bitumen production. This would result in an increased production of 150,000 bpd of bitumen. MEG currently has approval to construct and operate the first two phases of the project with production of 25,000 bpd of bitumen. They expect that ultimate production capacity from the area to reach 210,000 bpd of bitumen sustainable over 30 years.
  • UTS Energy Corporation plans to drill 300 core hole evaluation wells in 2008 on Lease 311 and 10 in situ wells at Birch Mountain. This is expected to occur from January to March subject to regulatory approval. UTS and Teck Cominco also intend to drill another 65 wells to evaluate Lease 840 and adjacent leases.
