Two gas companies, one French and the other Spanish, have been fined by national authorities for engaging in anticompetitive practices. Gas Natural Distribución were fined €492,000 by Spanish competition authorities for abusing their dominant position in relation to access to distribution networks. They allegedly hindered Endesa-owned Gas Alicante’s access to its natural gas network since 2003. In an unrelated investigation the French competition authorities fined Gaz Electricité de Grenoble €320,000 for abusing their dominant position.
