The Chief Executive in Council adopted the recommendation of the Minimum Wage Commission to adjust the statutory minimum wage rate.

Subject to the approval of the Legislative Council, the statutory minimum wage rate will increase from HKD28 per hour to HKD30 per hour on May 1, 2013. The increased rate will lead to an adjustment on the monthly monetary cap on keeping records of hours worked. From May 1, 2013, employers will only need to retain records of hours worked for employees whose wages payable are less than HKD12,300 (currently HKD11,500).
