It was announced on October 19 that Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., and Royal Dutch Shell PLC will jointly develop CO2 capture and recycle plants for CO2-EOR. The first contract is expected as early as 2008. The companies report that CO2-EOR will increase oil production by 4 barrels for each ton of CO2 injected. Facilities capable of collecting 10,000 tons of CO2 will be built, thereby increasing oil production in the subject fields by 40,000 bpd. The announcement follows up on a 2005 MOU signed by the companies to explore strategic opportunities regarding CO2-EOR.
