Acas has published new guidance for employers on suspension. It explains the circumstances when suspension should be considered and what alternatives might be appropriate. It clarifies that suspension should not be used as a disciplinary sanction and that it should only be considered if there is a serious allegation of misconduct. The guidance covers suspension on medical grounds and for new or expectant mothers, and also deals with pay during suspension.
