The Energy Commission of Malaysia (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) has announced a new competitive tender for the development of large scale solar photovoltaic plant in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah/Labuan. The capacity to be tendered will be from 1MWac to 30MWac with a target aggregate capacity of 360MWac in Peninsular Malaysia and 100MWac in Sabah/Labuan.

It is expected that the plant will be connected to the distribution grid and the developer will enter into a power purchase agreement with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) or Sabah Electricity Sdn. Bhd. (SESB) as offtaker. The plant is expected to be commissioned in 2019-2020.

Potential bidders must have:

• previous experience in implementing power or related projects, including experience of project finance and the operation of power plants or electrical installation

• foreign participation in any bidding consortium must not exceed 49%, in line with Malaysian Governmental policy.
