Proposals to increase the penalties for individuals deliberately or wilfully misusing personal data are likely to be adopted. This could mean that individuals convicted in the Crown Court of deliberately or wilfully misusing personal data could get prison sentences of up to two years and unlimited fines. Currently, sanctions for an offence under the Act are restricted to fines.
