From 1 July, under the Construction Products Regulation 2011, it will become mandatory to apply a CE mark to all construction products covered by a harmonised European Standard (hEN) or European Technical Assessment (ETA). The CE mark confirms that the product has been tested by the manufacturer and that it meets EU safety, health or environmental requirements. This is often referred to as the ‘declaration of performance’. It is likely that Trading Standards will act as the ‘enforcer’. A failure to comply with the regulations could result in a fine or prison sentence.
