Whilst we were not expecting much to be announced by the Chancellor today in relation to employee share incentive matters, the potential streamlining of tax-advantaged and non-tax-advantaged employee share plans is welcome.

There have been attempts to do this over the years and we have worked closely with HMRC on this process. Most of the changes to date have been for the good and the suggestion that the tax treatment of share incentive arrangements for employees who move around the world will be clarified is something we have been clamouring for over the last few years.

Any clarification in this area will be most welcome by our international clients and will hopefully reflect the new reality which is that employers need certainty in this very complicated area for their mobile executives.
