Nexsen Pruet intellectual property attorney Sarah Nagae shares insight into the types of trademarks and the trademark process as a whole in her weekly series, "Trademark Tuesday."

In the final video of the series, she explains "How Do You Protect Your Trademark?"

One very important thing to know is that trademark rights originate from your use of your mark in commerce. This means that you start to build up trademark rights when you use your mark as the name of your goods or services, or in connection with the sale of those goods or services. If you want to formalize those rights, that’s where registration comes in.

Sarah Nagae focuses on trademark and copyright law, helping clients protect their business names, brand names, logos, artistic works and other forms of intellectual property. In 2013, she was among the first to become a Board Certified Specialist in Trademark Law in North Carolina.
