PEPP needs to be long-term product supporting those saving for retirement

In a response to an EC consultation on personal pensions, Insurance Europe has acknowledged the need to examine ways of encouraging and supporting citizens saving for their retirement. The concept of an EU personal pension product was suggested as a way of meeting the Commission's objectives.

Equity trading costs continue to decline in the UK

Analysis by the FCA's Markets Policy Department shows that the UK's equity markets appear to be trending downwards. Certain aspects of the markets have fallen over the past three years, along with peer markets in both the US and Europe.

Proposals on state pension would cause riots

A paper published by the Centre for Policy Studies includes proposals to increase the state pension age to 80 and could cause "riots in the streets" according to one senior analyst. "The state pension: no longer fit for purpose" paper advocates the introduction of a "senior citizens' pension" and a workplace ISA for employer contributions following the 2017 auto-enrolment review.
