The Immigration Minister Damian Green has today announced that employment restrictions for Bulgarian and Romanian nationals will be extended until the end of 2013. As a result of the announcement, nationals from these two countries will be required to continue to seek permission from the UKBA before they can take up employment in the UK.

The decision to extend controls follows the publication of a report by the MAC (Migration Advisory Committee) which advised that the lifting of restrictions could cause more Romanian and Bulgarian nationals to come to the UK and take up lower skilled jobs. This, in turn, could cause displacement of resident workers.
