The UK Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) published its annual report at the end of last month. The report highlights an increase of 84% in the number of insurance disputes being reported to the FOS. This is significantly higher than the increase reported by the Irish Financial Services Ombudsman (referred to in January). Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) receives special mention in the report with over 30,000 PPI complaints received, constituting 62% of all insurance complaints and being a three fold increase on the previous year's figures. Insurers selling in the UK should be aware of this trend, particularly in light of comments in the report that the FOS is disappointed at the amount of justified complaints reaching the FOS.
