TIGTA Report: Private Collection Agency Security Over Taxpayer Data Needs Improvement: Today the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) released a report presenting the results of TIGTA’s evaluation the data protection measures of the Private Collection Agencies (PCAs) participating in the IRS’s Private Debt Collection Program. TIGTA made a total of eight recommendations to the IRS for improving security over taxpayer data, including performing annual assessments of the PCAs’ mailrooms, performing follow-up assessments for any deficiencies identified, and strengthening policies on mobile devices connected to systems containing sensitive information.
