On 17 July 2012, the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS) announced that the Secretary of State has decided to appoint Lord David Currie as Chair Designate of the proposed new Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). As first Chair of the CMA, Lord Currie will lead the organisational design of the new body and work closely with government, the OFT and the Competition Commission to ensure a smooth and effective transition. He will establish the CMA’s vision and strategic direction and play a central role in the appointment of its Chief Executive and Board.
