The World Conference on International Telecommunications (WCIT-12) will be held in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates from 3-14 December 2012. The WCIT-12 will review the current International Telecommunications Regulations (ITRs) to see whether the text needs updating to reflect the current information and communication landscape. A preparatory document entitled, 'Draft of the Future ITRs', has been released in anticipation of the conference and contains a range of proposals, which includes potentially expanding the jurisdiction and legal authority of the ITU over internet governance as well as major telecoms issues such as accounting rates and termination charges for next-generation networks, data privacy, cybersecurity, international mobile roaming and equipment specifications.
