On June 9, 2010, following a request from the US Trade Representative (USTR), the US International Trade Commission (ITC) announced its institution of an investigation of more than 700 pharmaceutical products and chemical intermediates for which the President is proposing to eliminate duties. The drugs would be added to the Pharmaceutical Appendix to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which currently covers approximately 9,500 products. The ITC is scheduled to submit its report to the USTR by September 1, 2010. The ITC will not hold a public hearing on this matter, but will accept written submissions, provided they are submitted on or before July 14, 2010.
