Notification of the reappointment of a number of rights commissioners has been published in the Iris Oifigiúil, the official gazette of the Irish state.

Notwithstanding the reforms introduced by the Workplace Relations Act 2015, rights commissioners continue to hear complaints referred under certain enactments before the commencement of Part 4 of the Workplace Relations Act 2015.

The Industrial Relations Act 1990 provides that the term of office of a rights commissioner must not exceed three years, but that he or she may be reappointed for a further term or terms by the Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation.

Under the Workplace Relations Act 2015, any person who had been appointed a rights commissioner was automatically appointed as an adjudication officer.
