This Bill received its fi rst reading in the Commons on 19 January with a second reading provisionally set for 23 April. The Bill seeks to fi ll a gap in current legislation which, it has been argued, provides too narrow an opportunity for directors to be prosecuted, with the result that the number of prosecutions of directors under section 37 of the HSWA falls far short of the number of incidents. The Bill seeks to redress this balance and impose positive obligations on company directors to ensure the health and safety of the company’s employees.
