Today, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Director Richard Cordray delivered the third Semi-Annual Report of the CFPB, which covers the last six months of 2012, to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Financial Services. During that period, the bureau gained authority to supervise certain debt collectors, and expanded its supervision program to include the larger credit reporting companies. The CFPB also launched its first enforcement actions, which were against credit card companies that deceived and misled consumers, and it began tackling issues in the market for private student loan debt.
