Last autumn the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Vince Cable, announced plans for a system by which patents could be granted in as little as 90 days. The Intellectual Property Office has been working on plans to implement this and today launched a consultation on those plans.
The consultation document can be accessed at:http://www.ipo.gov.uk/pro-policy/consult/consult-live/consult-2013-superfast.htm
The consultation seeks views inter alia on a proposal to offer a premium "superfast" patent processing service which would be capable of delivering patents in around 90 days, on payment of an additional fee. Comments are also invited on the existing acceleration services offered by the UK Intellectual Property Office.
