Following a notification from the German authorities, the Commission has assessed and endorsed Germany’s new film fund for the encouragement of production of feature films, documentaries and animation films with a cultural content. The total budget of the new German film fund amounts to €180 million, with annual budgets of €60 million. The German authorities have developed points-based eligibility tests, depending on the type of film, in order to determine whether the films meet the object of cultural content. The Commission’s assessment was based on the criteria set out in its 2001 Communication on state aid for cinema and audiovisual works. The German scheme has been approved until 31 December 2009.
