Last month, Insurance Ireland called on the Minister for Health to ensure that no more than €30 million would be raised during 2014 in new charges on public hospital beds introduced under the Health (Amendment) Act 2013. On 2 December 2013, the Health Insurance Council of Insurance Ireland published a press release in response to a letter received from the Department of Health advising members of the Council that the rates provided for (which, according to Insurance Ireland, will raise an additional €100 million in 2014 over and above the €30 million previously announced by the Minister) are to be left unchanged.
