The White House Office of the Press Secretary has issued a fact sheet announcing a program that will help large companies incorporate more clean vehicles into their transportation fleets as part of an initiative to reduce by one-third the amount of imported oil in the United States by 2025. Under the program, the Department of Energy (DOE) will help participating companies (i) “Reduce fuel use through the use of more efficient vehicles and technologies, including hybrids”; and (ii) “Replace conventional gasoline and diesel vehicles with advanced technology vehicles or ones that use alternative fuels, such as electricity, natural gas, ethanol, hydrogen, or propane.” Participating companies will receive technical assistance from DOE and its national laboratories, including tools and resources such as “cost calculators” and “interactive maps.”
