Slightly at odds with its construction blitz results, the HSE has published UK fatal injury statistics for the last quarter of 2008/09, which confirmed that there were 180 fatalities. This figure is 22% lower than the average for the previous 5 years (231) and by comparison with other EU countries, the UK's fatality rate is consistently one of the lowest.
