The Commission has launched an investigation into the Central Processing Unit (CPU) and PC sector with unannounced inspections at CPU manufacturers’ and PC retailers’ premises. Intel was among a number of companies subject to the inspections aimed at assessing whether restrictive business practices or abuses of dominant market positions are occurring in the sector. Also inspected were the premises of Europe’s two largest electronic retailers, Media Markt and DSG International (operator of PC World, Currys and Dixons in the UK). The duration of the investigation will depend upon the complexity of each case, the level of co-operation from the companies involved and the exercise of any rights of defence.
