The Irish Government has announced its intention to develop a new National Strategy on Cyber Security following the publication on 10 August 2009 by the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources of a Request for Tenders for the preparation of a report on the development of a national strategy on cyber security.

It is expected that the report will:

  • review current international best practice on cyber security;
  • make recommendations on how the government, government agencies and operators of critical IT infrastructure should respond to cyber attacks; and
  • make recommendations on the development of structures to oversee the planning of, and responses to, cyber attacks.
