Khaitan & Co advised, and represented Multiplex Association of India, before the Supreme Court, in Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed against the order of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir allowing a PIL petition, inter alia, directing the State and the multiplexes/cinema hall owners in the State not to prohibit cinema goers from carrying their own food articles and water inside the theatre. The SLP was heard on 10 August 2018, when the Court was pleased to issue notice and pass an ad-interim stay on the High Court’s direction. This order is likely to benefit cinema hall owners / multiplexes across the country, more particularly in States where similar petitions have been filed and are pending adjudication.
