Six Month Extension Announced

On 18 September 2020, the Stronger Communities Legislation Amendment (COVID-19) Regulation 2020 came into effect and most notably, extended the operation of the NSW electronic witnessing regulations brought in to combat restrictions imposed by COVID-19 to 26 March 2021.

Prior to this date, the COVID-19 electronic witnessing provisions were due to expire on 26 September 2020.

In a Media Release on 15 September 2020, Attorney General, Mark Speakman and Minister for Customer Service, Victor Dominello announced new legislation would be introduced enabling the electronic witnessing provisions to be further extended to the end of 2021, with a view to also assessing whether more permanent reforms should ensue. It is important to remember that the electronic witnessing regulations do not apply to all types of documents.

The NSW office continues to work both from the office and remotely and are still available to meet with clients in the office, at their homes or over video-conferencing platforms like Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams and Facetime.
