Under auto-enrolment, employers are required by law to confirm compliance with various aspects of their auto enrolment obligations and provide some details of compliance within five months of their staging dates (i.e. the date when auto enrolment first applies to them).  Up until now, this has been referred to by the Regulator as 'registration'.  However, in an announcement in June, the Regulator said that this was being changed to a 'declaration of compliance'. This is of course only a change in name, but it does indicate the importance of the statement as a "compliance" obligation and, perhaps, shows that the Regulator is keen to ensure that businesses do not make incorrect declarations and understand that the consequences of doing so may be grave.
