DDTC has proposed an amendment to the ITAR which would add an exemption for temporary exports of chemical agent protective gear for exclusive personal use to non-restricted destinations and Afghanistan and Iraq under certain conditions. The rationale for the exemption is that U.S. citizens are going to areas where this type of protective gear is essential for their safety. Comments on the proposed rule are due by May 23.
