The three-month consultation, focusing on safety, monitoring and maintenance, and liability, has been welcomed by the transport technology sector and is open to public response until February 2019.
Today the Law Commissions of England and Wales and Scotland have launched a preliminary three-month consultation on a regulatory framework for the safe deployment of automated vehicles in the United Kingdom. The consultation gives the public the opportunity to have a say on the future of self-driving vehicle safety, road rules, collision investigation and liability.
Our Transport Technology team welcomes the review, which represents an important aspect of the three-year Automated Vehicles project, for which final recommendations are to be delivered by March 2021. Anyone with an interest in autonomous vehicles is encouraged to respond to the preliminary consultation paper, which is available in full and in summary form on the Law Commissions website.
For preliminary observations from our Transport Technology team, AXA and the other VENTURER partners, see the VENTURER report which covers some of the themes consulted on. The preliminary consultation closes on 8 February 2019.
