EIOPA has published a draft report on comparisons between certain aspects of the EU and US insurance supervisory and regulatory regimes. The report has been produced by EIOPA’s EU-US Dialogue Project, which aims to foster increased mutual understanding and co-operation. The report aims to highlight the similarities and differences between the two regimes in seven areas. These are (i) professional secrecy and confidentiality (ii) group supervision (iii) solvency and capital requirements (iv) reinsurance and collateral requirements (v) supervisory reporting, data collection and analysis and disclosure (vi) supervisory peer reviews and (vii) independent third parties and supervisory on-site inspections. Comments are invited at two public hearings (on 12 October 2012 in Washington D.C. and on 16 October 2012 in Brussels) and in writing by 28 October 2012.
