An Order for an amendment to the Employment Rights Act 1996 (ERA) has now been made. The Order will grant every worker the right to an itemised pay statement from 6 April 2019.
At present, payslips need to include the gross amount of wages or salary, the amounts of any variable and any fixed deductions from that gross amount, and why the deductions have been made.
However, from 6 April 2019, where an employee’s pay varies by reference to time worked, employers must include the number of hours for which the employee is being paid on his or her itemised payslip.
The change will bring into force the government’s commitment outlined in its recent response to the Taylor Review of Modern Working Practices: Payslips (see legal update here).
If it is not already clear, employers should decide who in their workforce will benefit from this added right.
