High level government officials met with some 30 countries June 7 to begin considering what governments can do to improve the safety of nuclear power plants as well as response capacity for nuclear crises. “The Report of Japanese Government to the IAEA Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Safety – the Accident at TEPCO’s Fukushima Nuclear Power Stations” recounted how the March 11 earthquake and tsunami damaged the plant’s six reactors, and Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry will submit the report June 20-24 to the ministerial meeting in Vienna of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
