The provincial and federal governments are increasing their efforts to help skilled new comers obtain licenses/certificates and secure employment in their field of training. The program provides support to a wide range of skilled workers such as foreign-trained nurses, optometrists, engineers and IT specialists. Ontario Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Michael Coteau explains that “bridge training is about making the journey easier for internationally-trained individuals who want to put their skills and talents to work in Ontario.”

The Ontario Bridging Program is designed to assist internationally trained individuals find employment at par with their skills and experience. The program provides educational skills assessments, workplace experience and skills development, as well as occupation related language training. Funded by both the Ontario Government and the Government of Canada, these programs are facilitated through employers, colleges and universities, occupational regulatory bodies and community organizations.
