After a second confirmation hearing on Tuesday, Lord Hill’s membership of the College of Commissioners was approved by 45 votes to 13, and by 42 votes to 16 in the vote for the Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union portfolio, in a vote by the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee (ECON) of the European Parliament (EP).

Following an initial confirmation hearing on 1 October, and responses to initial questions, Lord Hill had been asked to provide a response to 23 supplementary questions posed by ECON in advance of his second hearing on 7 October.

As incoming president, Mr Juncker is scheduled to submit his proposed commission to a vote of the full EP on 22 October.  The EP must accept or reject the proposed commission as a whole, and does not vote on proposed commissioners individually.
