The Federation of Master Builders has questioned whether the Government’s Green Deal scheme will results in the expected gains in energy efficiency. In a recent survey, 44 per cent of member contractors thought that homeowners were unlikely to take advantage of the Green Deal when it launches in autumn of this year. Under the Green Deal, homeowners are offered energy efficient home improvements at no upfront costs, with payments being recouped through an instalment charge on the customer’s energy bill. It is feared that the financial incentives are not high enough for homeowners.
