On 16 November 2009 Taiwan and China signed three memoranda of understanding to enhance the development and cooperation between their financial industries. With effect from mid January 2010, Taiwanese financial institutions are able to access China's financial market and engage in financial business in China. Both authorities have agreed to take steps to enhance the exchange of financial information, establish financial institutions to monitor operations involving banking, securities, futures and insurance services and establish mechanisms to deal with possible financial crises.
