• On October 10, 2007, the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health did not reach a definitive opinion either in favor of or against European Commission proposals to authorize 3 genetically modified maize varieties (for food and feed, import and processing) and a GM potato (for feed and adventitious presence in food and feed). The relevant proposals are based on favorable scientific assessments from the European Food Safety Authority. The European Commission must now transmit the dossiers to the European Council. If the European Council does not reach agreement within months, the proposals will be sent back to the European Commission for final adoption (RAPID, October 11, 2007)
